It’s odd to think that four short years ago none of the adventures catalogued in this book existed. From the dawn of life on Earth to the final end of humanity, the Doctor’s adventures are listed here in the order that they happened, and the book also finds space to look back at UNIT’s greatest triumphs and chart Captain Jack’s long and complicated history.

It’s a book that is designed simply as a fun read, but there clearly has been some very careful thought into making the entries fresh and thorough. The events on the SS Pentallian from the episode ‘42’ are presented as a countdown, and we’re shown the consequences of Donna Noble’s left turn at certain points in the book.

It’s a bit weird that the final entry deals with the Doctor sending humanity back to its death in the far future (eschewing a happy ending), but short of detailing events from classic Doctor Who as well, this is as entertaining a guide as you are likely to see. Jonathan Wilkins
