An unannounced, battle-damaged ‘dead’ ship arrives at Atlantis – seemingly the Daedalus. Sheppard’s team go up to investigate. Rodney gets the power back on and Teyla reads the ship’s log – its commander, who none of them have heard of, reports her crew is abandoning ship to set up on a habitable planet. Suddenly, there is an energy surge and the ship’s mysterious drive shifts them into a parallel dimension…

The Stargate universe has seen quite a few forays into parallel dimensions over the years. Mostly, they have been forays into a single alternative, and now this offers a neat little twist on the theme.

The theme is strongly 'hard' sci-fi and offers a great deal of suspense, emotion and excitement as the variations of the episode title play out. This means that what looks at first to be a cost-effective ‘bottle show’ limited to the central set of characters turns out to be a nail-biting, funny, dynamic and at turns intriguing episode. There is a new set of alien ‘villains’ too, which is quite refreshing.

So, all in all, a nice little standalone episode which effectively entertains in just the right way. Brigid Cherry

VERDICT: 8/10
