The agents are assigned to help Silver and Gold tackle a problem on board a space shuttle...

The problem that Gold and Silver are trying to deal with almost becomes irrelevant as the drama of this story builds. It's far more about the battle that the Elementals are waging against the Transients, and the various temptations that even someone as strong as Steel can face.

Big Finish's team have expanded the Sapphire and Steel universe considerably, and while the mystery of who Sapphire and Steel were played well in the 1980s, it's been a good move to start to answer some questions. It's added another dimension to the drama, helped by some very strong performances from all four actors.

The relationship between Sapphire and Steel is contrasted with that of Silver and Gold, with both David Collings and Mark Gatiss very believable. However occasional back references within the story, as well as some overt mentions in the throw forward which unusually forms part of Zero, does make the listener wonder whether all of this is a side show and there's something much greater threatening the agents. VERDICT: 8/10
A well written, acted and directed instalment which promises much for the season finale.
