Stranded in Victorian London, the fifth Doctor and Nyssa try an experiment that sends them back in a time – to a past that shouldn't exist...

Like his recent contribution to the Eighth Doctor range, The Boy That Time Forgot demonstrates that Paul Magrs can write a controlled, linear story when he wants to – albeit one with a great deal of fantastical things going on. Magrs skilfully misdirects the listener during the first episode, making the initial cliffhanger one of Big Finish's best "you what?!" moments. The rest of the story doesn't disappoint after that.

Andrew Sachs plays an older version of a familiar character from Doctor Who lore with some similarities to the way that person was seen on screen, but necessarily affected by the passage of time. Both Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton are given some character development, and like the Autumn sequence in Circular Time, both rise to the occasion. Peter Quentin

VERDICT: 7/10
Featuring one of the most surprising (and, it has to be said, probably least requested) resurrections in Doctor Who's long history, The Boy That Time Forgot manages to be both a great tribute to old Amicus films like At The Earth's Core and an affecting character study.
