TV episode review
US airdate 21 February 2008 (The CW)
Bela has stolen the Colt, but as Sam and Dean search her hotel room they are caught and arrested by FBI Agent Henricksen (who still believes them to be common-or-garden thieves and murderers). He has them held in the local police station while the FBI send a helicopter to take them to jail. But neither the FBI nor the sheriff and the local law enforcement officers expect demons to come and kill the Winchesters…
This is Assault on Precinct 13 with demons – and the makers have done John Carpenter proud. This is a well-realised siege drama with the danger coming from inside as well as out. It’s a brilliantly funny script too, with lines such as “Fighting off monsters with condiments!”
There is a serious side to the episode though and some nasty turns of event in the war with the demons. The episode title alludes to this – Jus In Bello being the laws of fair warfare that Sam and Dean try so desperately to enact, but the demons (including Ruby) seem to have no concept of. On top of that, genre star-spotters might enjoy Peter DeLuise’s very brief cameo.
Overall, this episode really ups the ante against the Winchester and promises even more serious jeopardy before the season is out. This show just doesn’t let up. Brigid Cherry
VERDICT: 9/10
