Ed Zeddmore and Harry Spangler have put together a crew to make a Most Haunted-style programme called Ghostfacers. As they set up their equipment for a night in the haunted Morton House, a pair of detectives interrupt them. But Ed recognises these interlopers as Sam and Dean Winchester, and when they all become trapped in the house by the spirit of the previous owner, they have to work together…

The return of Spangler and Zeddmore, previously encountered in the season 1 episode Hell House, makes for a lighter-toned episode with the focus on a Ghostbusters-style caper. Never fear though. Despite the high level of laugh-out-loud moments, events do take a definite turn for the nasty.

Nothing much actually happens in the episode, it’s just one night in a house with one aim in mind – escape. It also takes the emphasis off of Sam and Dean as we follow the Ghostfacers doomed endeavours to make the media bigtime. But sometimes you don’t need detailed complex narratives that take their time to unravel. This rollercoaster ride is just what Supernatural needs at the moment as the season arc begins its final angsty countdown. Brigid Cherry
