A Starfleet field test produces impossible results, and a decorated officer goes rogue. Just another day on the new frontier...

This comic looks set to become a vintage piece of Trek. It follows Admiral Edward Jellico, a familiar face from both the Next Generation TV series and earlier New Frontier novels, as he apparently steals the first Starfleet Time ship and the officers in charge of Sector 221-G are tasked with finding him. It’s a perfect jumping on point for readers new to the series, with every character and situation explained elegantly and clearly.

The story gives David the opportunity to touch base with the series' ongoing plots, drop some nice character moments in and pile on the tension. Calhoun and Admiral Shelby, his wife, are particularly well portrayed and the pressures of a marriage in the chain of command look set to be a subplot of the series.

With expressive, bold art from Stephen Thompson, an epic scale plot and David's trademark humour this is well paced, well drawn and huge fun. Alasdair Stuart

VERDICT: 8/10
A must for any fan, and the perfect chance for new readers to take a trip around 221-G.
