In which we learn how Peter Petrelli ended up in Ireland and why his brother Nathan saw himself hideously scarred. It is also revealed how DL really died, why Niki gave herself up to Bob and the Company, and why Maya and Alejandro are on the run. Clearly there has been a great deal of misdirection going on in previous episodes of this season. Either it’s been a case of pulling the wool over the viewer’s eyes, or some neat retrofitting to get things back on track. Neither is an ideal scenario in terms of acknowledging the faithful audience, but this season certainly needed a major rethink to bring it up anywhere near the level of quality of season one.

Having neatly stitched everything (well, almost everything) together, it is also great to feel a renewed promise that Heroes can still captivate and has a few astonishing tricks up its sleeves yet.

The only off-key parts of the episode are the scenes filling in the backstory of Maya and Alejandro. The point of these new characters is still unclear, and to cap that Syler is sorely missing. But overall, Heroes is now getting back on form. Brigid Cherry

VERDICT: 8/10
