The Star Wars saga continues as Han Solo rallies the Rebel forces - in miniature!

Know for being epic in scale and scope, it seems strange to see one of Star Wars’ greatest and most sprawling games reduced to the PSP’s micro-screen. Happily, Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron is a fun and surprisingly complete version of the game for anyone who wants to experience Star Wars while on the move.

Kicking off with the Rebel escape from Yavin IV (the location of the battle against the first Death Star), Renegade Squadron includes a comprehensive selection of options that allow you to customise the game to a certain extent. There’s a wide variety of maps and ships (including the Millennium Falcon and Boba Fett’s super-cool Slave I), and playable characters include the Alec Guinness version of Ben Kenobi and popular Sith warrior villainess Asajj Venttress. The controls are incredibly responsive and the multiplayer offers up such diverse options as Conquest and Capture the Flag, which increases the playability.

Although the graphics are occasionally a little blocky, Lucasarts should be commended for including so many different elements that might have seemed unthinkable given the format. There’s certainly plenty of action and fun to be had in yet another essential Star Wars game. Adam Herman

VERDICT: 9/10
It’s a hideous cliché…but the Force is with this one!
