Platinum studios, Top Cow Productions and Arclight Films are bringing the epic adventures of the Witchblade to cinema screens.

Based on the Top Cow comic which debuted in 1995, the new movie will feature a ornate jewel-encrusted gauntlet that gives extraordinary powers to the wearer, a specially chosen female from each generation.

The comic previously spun off a 2000 TV Movie which led to a two-season TV series on TNT, as well as a Japanese anime series in 2006.

"This property is the cornerstone of our upcoming production and sales slate," Arclight CEO Gary Hamilton told Variety. "We hope to be able to start production in September." Locations are being sought in Australia.
