The X-Files creator and director Chris Carter has confirmed that the title of the long awaited second movie will be The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
Taking its title from the poster that adorned Fox Mulder's apartment throughout the television show, the new film picks up six years after the end of the nine-year series, and features David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles as Mulder and Scully, investigating a new X-File that piques both their attention.
"It's a natural title," Carter told The Associated Press. "It's a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. It really does suggest Mulder's struggle with his faith."
Carter had earlier stated that he was experiencing resistance from the studio to his preferred title, but they were now happy with the name once they had ensured it was marketable.
The X-Files: I Want to Believe opens on July 25th.
