Production on the second cinema adaptation of The X-Files is wrapping this week after three months' shooting in Vancouver.

Writers Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz gave a press conference alongside star David Duchovny to thank the city for its assistance both during the movie, and the show's initial five years on air.

"It would please me to no end to think that we were helpful to Vancouver, because this was the perfect city to film this particular show in," Duchovny said. "When we came here, we barely knew what we were doing, and as we got better, the crews grew with us."

Spotnitz emphasized that knowledge of the show's intricate nine-year mythology was not necessary to enjoy the new movie. "We saw this as an opportunity to introduce the characters to people who may have been too young," he explained. "It has a reason for being, even if there'd never been a television show before."

Duchovny also claimed that shots published worldwide of Mulder and Scully kissing were "staged" for the cameras.

The X-Files 2 opens on 25 July 2008.
