Joss Whedon is preparing a new series for 20th Century Fox that is to star Buffy and Angel’s rogue Slayer Faith, Eliza Dushku.

Dollhouse has been given an initial seven episode order by Fox. It deals with a set of agents who are given the personalities, abilities and memories they need to carry out missions. When those are complete, their memories are wiped clean and they are sent back to the Dollhouse. Dushku’s character, Echo, starts to develop a sense of self-awareness.

Dushku brought Whedon on board after she signed with Fox in August. "I sat down with her to talk about her options,” Whedon told Variety. “…in the course of doing it, I accidentally made one up. I told it to her, and she said, 'That's exactly what I want to do.' "

Fox TV chairman Dana Walden told The Hollywood Reporter, “You can imagine a really exciting, timely, emotional show that will be packed with his signature storytelling involving humour, emotions and themes that are relatable.”

Whedon will be showrunner and executive producer on Dollhouse, with Dushku also taking a producer credit. Subject to the writers’ strike, Fox hope to shoot the series in spring 2008 for debut in the fall schedules.
